Blood
Covenant
From the Back Cover: "I am Jonathan Cravers, master of Tall Pines."
The corners of his thin mouth lifted mirthlessly. "I don't recall
issuing an invitation to you, Miss Marshall." She would have answered
but for the abrupt shock of gazing into his eyes. They locked forcefully
with hers, penetrating despite their tranquil brown, and she could
not look away. She discerned evil in the fathomless depths; something
so foul it made her catch her breath. Never had she perceived such
a powerful sense of corruption! His gaze... |

The
Book of Nod
The author writes: You can tell I was very influenced by the Hebrew
midrash about Lilith, as well. I like Lilith as a figure, and t hought
that the very male-oriented Vampire 'first myth' needed a female power
figure. Who else but Lilith could give Caine (and thus all of the
Kindred) his magical power? I heartily recommend the Book of Nod -
it is one of my works that I really enjoy looking at again and again
- even if you are just into Goth stuff, you'll probably get a kick
out of it. I've even heard somebody started a "Church of Nod", a thought
which is enough to occasionally contribute to sleepless nights |

The
Castle of Otranto, Vathek, the Vampyre, and a Fragment of a Novel
: Three Gothic Novels
Review: This is a fabulous collection representing the beginning of
Gothic fiction. Dr. Polidori's piece is particularly intersting as
he was a physician and present at the famous ghost-story-telling session(s)
of Byron and the Shelley couple. On the whole, this collection is
the ideal glimpse into the genre at its rudimentary level. |

Contesting
the Gothic : Fiction, Genre, and Cultural Conflict, 1764-1832
Book Description: This historically grounded account of Gothic fiction
takes issue with received accounts of the genre as a stable and continuous
tradition. Charting its vicissitudes from Walpole to Scott, Watt shows
the Gothic to have been a heterogeneous body of fiction, characterised
at times by antagonistic relations between writers or works. Watt
examines the novels' political import and concludes by looking ahead
to the fluctuating critical status of Scott and the Gothic, and perceptions
of the Gothic as a monolithic tradition, which continue to exert a
powerful hold. |
Countess
Dracula : A Novel
From the Back Cover: Carroll Borland is the legendary star of early
cinema, who's portrayal of "Luna" opposite Bela Lugosi in the 1935
motion picture classic, Mark of the Vampire, indelibly etched in the
minds of moviegoers the "look, the style and sexuality of female vampires
for generations to come." How did Bela Lugosi inspire the writing
of this legendary sequel to Bram Stoker's Dracula? What was the true
story behind the infamous "incest scene" rumored to have been cut
from Mark of the Vampire, starring Carroll... |
