Salem's Lot - The Mini-Series
Well-made hair-raiser based on Stephen King's bestseller about vampirism
running rampant in small New England town. Mason is great as sinister
antique dealer, and Nalder's vampire is terrifying, but Soul is only
so-so as successful writer returning home to strange goings-on. Later
cut to 150m. ; the 112m. version available on video and shown on cable-TV
as SALEM'S LOT: THE MOVIE and BLOOD THIRST is the overseas theatrical
version and contains more explicit violence. Followed by A RETURN
TO SALEM'S LOT. Copyright |
Salem's Lot - The Movie
Review: I remember seeing this film as a young boy. It frightened
me that much I couldnt sleep for months if the light wasnt on in my
bedroom. Although there are two versions of Salems Lot (The Movie
& The mini series) I will only suggest the Mini series. The Movie
version is modified beyond recognision and should be avoided in my
opinion. The mini series gives you a better idea of the plot and builds
up greater suspense. Reggie Nalder plays a terrifying Nosferatu vampire
named Kurt Barlow whom infects the town of Salems Lot with his unending
thirst for blood. With help from his day time guard Mr Straker (James
Mason) soon the town of Salems Lot becomes a haven of evil as more
residents rise to hunger the blood of the living. A young boy Mark
Petrie (Lance Kerwin), and a writer Ben Mears (David Soul) who returned
to Salems Lot after spending his childhood there, attempt to put an
end to the evil that is manifest within the Marsten House... When
you watch this movie, you will find it extremely difficult to look
out your bedroom window at night again |
Son of Dracula
The Prince of the Children of the Night seeks a new sanctuary. As
Count Alucard, he finds another home in the lush swamps and palatial
mansions of the gothic South. Although the entire town buzzes with
news of the mysterious stranger's arrival, no one is more interested
than Katherine Caldwell, a wealthy belle with a passion for the occult.
Her desire for forbidden knowledge draws her inexorably into Dracula's
grasp, and before long she's abandoned her fiance for Alucard. Katherine's
jilted... |
Tale of a Vampire
From Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide London: Lonely vampire Sands
becomes attracted to librarian Hamilton, who resembles his lost love...
but mysterious Cranham is keeping an eye on both of them. Horror thriller
emphasizes romance; it's good looking and well acted, but ponderous
and pretentious. |
Tales From the Crypt Presents "Bordello of Blood"
Private eye Rafe Guttman (Dennis Miller) is hired by repressed, born-again
Katherine (Erika Eleniak) to find her missing bad-boy brother. The
trail leads him to a whorehouse run by a thousand-year-old vampire
(Angie Everhart) and secretly backed by Katherine's boss, televangelist
Jimmy Current (Chris Sarandon, wonderfully insincere and smarmy).
Not for the squeamish or the easily offended (but you knew that from
the title), Bordello of Blood is pulp horror as it should be--funny,
fast, and full of gore. How many movies do you know where naked vampire
hookers devour the still-beating hearts of their adolescent clients,
or where the hero saves the day with a Super Soaker? Dennis Miller
is at his wisecracking best as the oddest private eye since Elliot
Gould played Philip Marlowe in The Long Goodbye. Angie Everhart devours
her role with relish (yum!). And former Playboy Playmate Erika Eleniak
seems to be enjoying the joke that in a movie filled with half-naked
women, she's the only one who keeps her clothes on |
